Police are investigating, after fires have been started on a building site in Eastfield.

Police and fire crews were alerted to a report of youths starting two fires on the Capella building site at 7.45pm on Saturday.

North Yorkshire Police said: "We are all aware of how stretched our Fire and Rescue Service currently is due to the ongoing moorland fire so calls like this to deal with issues of deliberate fires being set are very frustrating.

"Not only is there serious risk of harm to the young people involved, but there is also unnecessary demand being put on our services and the risk that such fires get out of control in residential areas, putting many at risk.

"The Capella site is very difficult to access out of hours which poses significant problems for emergency services if somebody is injured or trapped. Please speak to your young people about the risks of starting fires and also accessing building sites, which are inevitably locked for a reason."
