Humberside Police says its officers will continue its usual approach despite new Coronavirus rules being announced yesterday by the Government.

It comes into effect from Monday 14 September, where it will see limited gatherings indoors and outdoors to six people, apart from in exempt circumstances, and fines enforceable for anyone who does not adhere.

In response, Assistant Chief Constable Paul Anderson said:

“Since the start of the pandemic, I am very pleased to say that the vast majority of people within the Humberside Force area have complied with the laws and guidance set out to protect the NHS and save lives, and I would like to thank everyone for this.

“As the new law limiting gatherings to six people both indoors and outdoors comes into place on Monday (14 September), I am confident that our communities will continue to follow the rules and help to limit the spread of the virus.

“Throughout the pandemic, our policing approach has always been to engage with people and explain, providing encouragement to adhere to the rules and as a last resort, use enforcement.

“Our officers out and about in the community will continue to take this approach.

“The virus has not gone away and I do believe that our communities, as ever, will remain vigilant and take the new restrictions seriously, helping to protect each other.”
