Pay freeze could be 'demoralising' for police in North Yorkshire, claims union
It's ahead of a possible move by Chancellor Rishi Sunak.
There could be a drop in morale for police in North Yorkshire, if their pay is frozen.
That's according to the force's union.
The move could be announced in Chancellor Rishi Sunak's Spending Review, which will be announced later.
Chair of the county's Police Federation, Rob Bowles, said:
"The amount of personal sacrifices made by public sector workers in general, not just the police service, has been absolutely enormous. It does seem like a significant betrayal by the government.
I think it undermines a lot of the goodwill that the government has been trying to generate. I think it just breeds demoralisation from members of the police service and from the public sector in general. I think it could have a significant impact."
