Discussions are ongoing about how to re-open parts of Scarborough Spa and Whitby Pavilion.

The Borough Council says it is in a contract with operators Sheffield Internatonal Venues, which runs them, till 2022.

The sites have not re-opened since lockdown after SIV said it had financial problems and some staff have been put at risk of redundancy.

Janet Jefferson, the Council's Cabinet Member for Corporate Resources, said:

"They have a lease which we gave them in 2012 which expires in 2022.

But at the moment, they have the operating ability for the inside of the restaurants of Farrer's, the theatres are totally different of course and not a lot of theatres are opening.

We are in negotiations and we've had members' briefing. We're doing a report which will come to cabinet in October.

We are looking at the possibility of bringing it back into Scarborough Borough Council and we would be then running it ourselves, which is very exciting for everybody in Scarborough and Whitby."
