North Yorkshire police gear up for one of the busiest weekends of the year
Extra officers will be on patrol to help keep people safe
It's set to be one of the busiest weekends of the year at North Yorkshire's pubs and clubs.
Our police force say they will have extra officers out on patrol to make sure everyone stays safe.
"Don't shatter lives"
Assistant Chief Constable Elliot Foskett is also calling on members of the public to report anyone who is drink or drug driving: "Mates don’t let mates drink drive, don’t let a colleague of yours or a friend of yours get behind the wheel of a car, just don’t do it. Buy them soft drinks if they’re the designated driver, pull your cars, share a taxi.
"If you think somebody is drink driving and you are in a pub and you see someone drunk and it looks like they are going to drive, phone 999, they are about to take a lethal weapon as far as I’m concerned on the roads."
"If you know someone doing this call crime stoppers, and we do get reports and we act on that intel. So someone will say person X constantly goes to this pub and gets behind the wheel of a car after and we get that intelligence in, we will be acting on that intelligent.
During last year’s Christmas campaign police officers in North Yorkshire conducted 1,035 roadside tests across 32 days. From the 1,035 tests at the side of the road, 121 people were arrested for drink and drug driving offences.
