North Yorkshire Police are only going take action against people who "blatantly flout" coronavirus rules- ahead of more restrictions relaxing on Monday.

We'll be able to meet in groups of 30 outdoors and groups of six will be able to gather indoors.

Police say they've given out just eight fines this week for indoor gatherings, and will turn attention elsewhere from Monday.

Chief Inspector Charlotte Bloxham said: "It is still important to keep following the key safety measures of washing hands, wearing face coverings, maintaining social distance when out in public or using public transport, and getting as much fresh air into your lungs and home as possible."

However, officers are still going to remain in tourist areas, which the force is expecting to get "very busy" as life returns to more a recognisable normal.

Meanwhile, public health leaders in the region have warned Covid-19 "won't just evaporate" this summer and believe we may need to stay on high alert for another year.

More than 35 million people across the UK, including 452,000 in North Yorkshire and York, have now received their first vaccine dose as the rollout is extended to those aged 40 and over.

The figure for second doses is 18 million across the UK and 242,000 in North Yorkshire and York.
