North Yorkshire families struggling to afford supermarket shop
Inflation has slowed by prices are still rising
North Yorkshire families say they're feeling the strain as research shows supermarket prices are more than 5% higher than they were a year ago.
Inflation has slowed but charities say many are still choosing between heating and eating.
Michelle Hayes is the Founder of Resurrected Bites - who collect surplus food and redistribute it through their community café and grocery stores in Harrogate and Knaresborough: "We are seeing a lot of people who are in full time appointment using our service because they are not getting any additional support from benefits. We don't want to see anyone struggling unnecessary so we do encourage people to get in touch with us."
"We offer additional support, so we have a work hub to help people with interview practice or their CVs of finding work. We do cookery courses we do budgeting courses and we basically ask our members what they need help with and we try and find a source to provide that help."
"It's incredible how much shopping costs these days. We know that people are really having to cut back so we want to particularly make sure families are getting well fed, especially if they've got children we want to make sure they are getting fresh fruit and veg and I know that can be beyond people's resource at the moment."
