Christmas period 'make or break' for some North Yorkshire pubs and clubs
Many are desperate to make money now to help them through 2025

We are hearing how this years Christmas party season will be 'make or break' for some pubs and clubs in North Yorkshire.
It comes as research suggests almost half of companies will not be having a Christmas party this year.
Among those still in the festive spirit, one in four workers were expected to pay for it themselves, according to a study of 650 employers by jobs site CV-Library.
The most popular party will be dinner and drinks, followed by a private event, drinks at the local pub, drinks in the office or a joint party with other companies.
"The work Christmas party used to be the highlight of the office social calendar, but these figures suggest it might be losing its sparkle," said Lee Biggins, chief executive of CV-Library.
"With tighter budgets, more remote working, and staff enthusiasm on the wane, it seems some companies are rethinking the traditional end-of-year bash."
Charlie Lavemai-Goldsbrough is from the North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and says they've noticed a change in people's habits: "There is a trend going towards more of a casual Christmas party you're seeing in the news quite a lot that Gen Z are turning away from drinking and those sort of social gatherings. But actually we're seeing that the Christmas markets are busier than ever."
"Not only are we seeing businesses struggling in terms of finances, but also people are considering where they're spending their money. But it's also for the hospitality sector and the night time economy to put an offer out there that people will buy and I'm sure that they will."
"It's such an important period, I can't really stress it enough. It really makes up for that lull that happens between September and November as well typically when people are spending in the summer, there's quite a big gap and then people will see the highest footfall in December and throughout the Christmas period."
