New Coronavirus Case in Scarborough

Another confirmed coronavirus case has been added to Scarborough’s figures over the bank holiday weekend.

The latest case, which brings the borough’s total since the start of the pandemic to 573, was recorded on Tuesday last week but was only revealed in figures released on Saturday night.

It now means two cases were recorded on that Tuesday in the borough.

The data includes tests carried out in hospitals and also Pillar 2 tests, which is anyone tested at one of the mobile sites in the borough, or sent a test to take at home.

The new case has seen Scarborough’s seven-day infection rate decrease slightly, from 0.4 to 0.3.

Meanwhile, the mobile coronavirus testing service will be back in Scarborough and Whitby again this week for anyone showing symptoms to get tested.

The drive-through facility will set up at the Seamer Road park and ride site in Scarborough tomorrow.

On Thursday it will be at Whitby’s park and ride facility, on Guisborough Road.

It is being organised by the Department of Health and Social Care, which has warned people to not just turn up but make an appointment first.

There are two ways to do this depending on which testing group you are part of.

Anyone who is showing coronavirus symptoms should register for a test on the NHS website at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

People who do not have access to the internet, or who have difficulty with the digital portals, can ring the 119 service to book.

Key workers and members of their household should register for a test on the government website.

Tests can be booked at www.gov.uk/apply-coronavirus-test-essential-workers from 8pm tonight for the Scarborough site and from 8pm tomorrow for Whitby.
