The team at the zoo at Sewerby Hall and Gardens have welcomed yet another new arrival – George the kunekune pig.
George came to the attraction from Scunthorpe, where he became unsuitable to be kept by the family who previously owned him. They appealed for help on Facebook to find him a new home, and the zoo were happy to help.
Head zookeeper John Pickering said:
“We were delighted to be able to rehome George, who is a great addition to the zoo here at Sewerby Hall and Gardens. He is already very friendly with Gus, our micropig, and we are really looking forward to the public being allowed back in to see them both soon.”
Kunekune pigs are originally from New Zealand, and are known for being docile and friendly, and are often kept as pets.
It is hoped that the zoo at Sewerby Hall and Gardens will be able to reopen to the public on 12 April, if there are no changes to the government’s roadmap. On the same date, it is also hoped that outdoor seating can return to the Clocktower Café.

Until Sunday 11 April, the gardens, café (takeaway-only, no seating available), play area and toilets will be open.
