Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team volunteers were called out to help a man who'd fallen and suffered a suspected hip injury at his farm near Whitby on Saturday afternoon.

It happened shortly after 3pm at the property in Sleights.

Paramedics made their way to him, but had to abandon their ambulance nearby and walk the final part of the journey due to poor road conditions caused by snow and ice.

When it was decided the man needed to be taken to hospital, mountain rescue volunteers got close to the farm in their 4x4 vehicles.

They then used a stretcher, vacuum mattress and casualty bag (similar to a large fleece lined sleeping bag) to get the man to the waiting ambulance, from where he was driven to hospital.
