A Scarborough charity says it's been busy helping people with mental health distress.

Scarborough Survivors moved to telephone support back in March due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Andrea Woolcott, Chief Officer, said:

"We've provided over 22,000 interventions interventions from the end of March until the end of September.

"Currently we're supporting about 178 people; sometimes that's once a day, sometimes that's twice a day and sometimes people only need support once a week.

"In the early days, we were finding that anxiety was really quite a prominent factor, knowing that this virus was out there and not knowing how life was going to pan out.

"A lot of people affected by OCD were acutely affected by the hand washing, sanitising and making sure everything was clean.

"A lot of people became depressed because life had literally been turned upside down and they were struggling to cope.

"We're finding now that the emphasis of issues have shifted to people that have been affected by being furlough and not knowing whether they have employment, the depressions of things not being open and life not being as it was before.

"If it's a first episode of poor mental health then please try not to worry and please get in touch with us. We'll be able to help you and support you through these difficult times.

"If we're not the appropriate agency to support you then we can signpost people to the appropriate agencies."
