A further 19 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in Scarborough, in the last 24 hours.

They bring the borough’s total since the start of the pandemic to 1,063.

It means that the borough has had 99 cases last week, with the seven-day infection rate per 100,000 people now at 91, which remains the lowest in the county.

The average for England is currently 169

Scarborough’s coronavirus infection rate peaked at more than 100 in the middle of last week.

Today, a mobile testing facility will be at Scarborough’s Seamer Road park and ride site.

The testers will then be in Whitby tomorrow.

The testing has been organised by the Department of Health and Social Care, which has warned people to not just turn up but make an appointment first.

There are two ways to do this, depending on which testing group you are part of.

Anyone who is showing coronavirus symptoms should register for a test on the NHS website at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

People who do not have access to the internet, or who have difficulty with the digital portals, can ring the 119 service to book.

Tests can be booked at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
