More Coronavirus cases in Scarborough

Twenty-two new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Scarborough over the last 24 hours, as the borough’s infection rate jumps again.

The new infections took the borough’s total since the start of the pandemic to 976.

Scarborough’s seven-day infection rate has jumped up once more to 93.8 per 100,000 people.

The borough, which was placed on Public Health England’s coronavirus Area of Concern list a month ago, has the second-lowest rate in North Yorkshire and remains well below the average for England, which stands at 156.

The borough has had 102 new cases in the last seven days, compared to 249 in Harrogate.

Yesterday, North Yorkshire was put into the Medium Tier 1 restrictions, the lightest possible level.
