A million pounds for Filey welcomed by local councillor
The money's being put into Scarborough Borough Council's draft budget as part of the town's masterplan
A Filey councillor says he is pleased money has been put in the budget for the town's masterplan.
Mike Cockerill, who sits on Scarborough Borough Council, as well as the Town Council has been reacting to the cabinet approving it last week.
No final decisions have been made on what the money will be spent on though.
Mike said:
"This is very much under discussion at the moment. Various ideas are being put forward, particularly by the Town Council as well as my two colleagues and myself who sit on the Borough Council for Filey. Nothing is really decided yet but very positive discussions are taking place.
"There was a community survey done back end of last year where the residents of Filey were asked what would they like to see. There's a meeting between the Borough Council and Town Council representatives where hopefully we'll make further progress. It's all looking very good.
"The only limitation is the imagination. At the moment we have a lot of outdated posts in Filey directing people to various places. You'll have seen the improvements that have recently been made to the signage in Scarborough and that is one of the things that's being looked at.
"I am absolutely over the moon. I wish it was more. Scarborough and Whitby were very lucky that they fitted with the Government criteria to get their funding from them. Unfortunately Filey didn't fit that criteria but this shows a very positive step forward for Filey and I welcome it tremendously."
