Martongate Primary School in Bridlington is celebrating its 50th birthday this month.

It is asking for people to share any memories they have with them on social media.

The school is holding a number of events with its pupils.

Assistant Head, Kim Peacock, said: "Each year group are looking at a decade, so our Year 6s are starting with the 70s and then we're working our way through the decades and looking at how Martongate has changed, how Bridlington has changed and also the wider context of say fashions and what was going on in those decades.

"Our Year 6 have loved finding out about the 70s and the different genres of music, finding out about David Bowie and how he not only was a musician but also like style icon. Our Year 4s have enjoyed looking at the 80s in terms of what was happening. They've really enjoyed getting to grips with it.

"Some of our ex-pupils have got in touch with us and we're starting to share those. We've got previous headteachers and senior leaders coming back. We're just creating a memory wall of 50 images of Martongate that we're going to attach to the fence line outside so all the members of the public can see them as well.

"What we're really looking for is anyone to share memories or anyone who thinks they can contribute to enhancing the children's learning linked to a specific period of time, so it might be a photograph, it might remembering a school trip or it might be someone who could maybe answer some children's questions over a Microsoft Teams call or something like that.

"The children are obviously doing things stuff in school but we're trying to see how we can maybe bring one or two members of the community in to do something that we can show that we're celebrating it. Our long term aim is try and have members of the public and families in when the guidance isn't as strict."

You can contact the school via Twitter or on their website.
