Man charged with public order offences after Scarborough incident

A Scarborough man's has been arrested and remanded in custody after a disturbance in the town yesterday.

Police were called to reports of a man carrying a screwdriver in Trafalgar Road, at around 9.40am.

He was reportedly approaching members of the public in a threatening manner.

He then walked around nearby streets, including Peasholm Drive.

Police, including firearms officers, attended and cordoned off the area to keep the public safe.

38 year-old Darren Simpson, of Wooler Street, was arrested and charged with using threatening and abusive behaviour.

He was remanded to appear before magistrates in Scarborough today.
