A further 829 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus across Hull and East Yorkshire, as of yesterday (Thursday, February 3).

The Government’s latest rolling figures show the number of infections recorded across the region was 2,873 for Hull and 3,363 in the East Riding in the seven days up to Saturday, January 29, the latest with weekly data available.

A total of 88,171 new coronavirus cases were recorded nationally today, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 17,607,832, with 303 new deaths recorded, making a total of 157,730.

The figures come as regulators approved Novavax, the fifth to be permitted in the UK, with trials showing it has 89 per cent effectiveness against coronavirus.

They also come as daily coronavirus figures, reported on Wednesday, included a backlog in deaths, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), which said it meant mortality statistics were therefore higher than usual.
