Police have closed a road in Scarborough due to a large sinkhole.

Stepney Road, from Stepney Drive roundabout through to the junction at Seamer Moor Lane, is closed with officers and National Highways in attendance.

It is thought a sewer has collapsed exposing a 15-20ft hole in the road surface. At the moment it is believed that no properties are at risk.

Police say at this stage it is not known how long the road will be closed for but people are advised to avoid the area whilst it is assessed.
