The head of Scarborough College claims labeling children as 'lost generation' of the coronavirus pandemic is unfair.

The term's been used to describe youngsters who have faced months away from classrooms and their friends.

But headmaster Guy Emmett says we must stop that way of thinking:

"Our families, children and schools are doing a great job and actually, what we're producing here is a group of youngsters or children that are amongst some of the most resilient and resourceful, and they certainly will achieve great things in the future with our support.

"We know how our children are thinking and feeling and we'll be with them every step of the way. I do not think there'll be a lost generation at all. In fact, they're amongst the most resilient, hardworking and determined group of people I've ever had the pleasure of working with.

"The school counsellor is available online and not in person, so of course that will have an impact but we also have tutor periods twice a day, where they're seeing their teachers and their friends. So here, schools will play a huge part in providing stability and love that we have for our children.

"Teachers going in to teaching for a variety of reasons but above all I feel it's because they love the children that they work with and also speaking on behalf of my colleagues, we're sociable, we love working with people. It's one of the joys in our job that no day is quite the same."
