People in East Yorkshire, which includes Bridlington and the East Riding, working in the public sector are facing the worst pay cuts.

Figures from the TUC show nearly 33,000 key workers have not had a pay increase in Hull, East Yorkshire and the Humber.

Bill Adams is from the TUC for Yorkshire and the Humber and said:

"You also shouldn't forget the real emphasis that's been placed on people like police officers, teachers who've kept our schools opened for vulnerable children and children of key workers, all these people are very often left out at the bottom of the pile when it comes to wages.

"If you're earning above £24,000 for example, you won't get a pay rise if you work in the public sector except those in the NHS, who get a very, very small rise, and then there's other people who won't get anything. So what we're looking at here is real pay cuts.

"It's going to affect the people who've kept us going during the pandemic, the very people we rely on to keep everything going in terms of services and keeping us alive. What I think we'd like to see is a substantial pay rise for those workers."
