A fish and chip restaurant in Filey has re-opened this afternoon after closing over the weekend because of coronavirus.

Ingham's on Belle Vue Street shut its doors on Saturday morning, after one of the members of staff found out he'd been in contact with someone who tested positive.

The business has had a deep-clean since.

Director Chris Ingham said:

"We had a member of staff who was in contact briefly with somebody who'd tested positive sat on a train wearing masks.

He did the right thing, told us that he'd been in contact with somebody with Covid who tested positive, he then went into self isolation and we then closed with immediate effect.

There were no thoughts. We immediately said 'we've got to close'. Safety first for our staff, who are fantastic, and our customers who keep coming back.

So there was no thinking about it, it was an immediate reaction whatever the cost to the business, safety comes first.

We did a thorough deep clean through Saturday and mainly Sunday, knowing that nobody had been in apart from our family bubble.

Everything has been bleached down and disinfected and at the moment, we're safe to go again.

We've enforced it from day one; our biggest we've got is six, we don't pool tables together.

If a family group of 10 do appear, they would have to sit on two separate tables away from each other, not being able to interact.

We've always done that. No more than six at any table."
