Scarborough’s Covid-19 infection has jumped up once more after 28 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The borough’s seven-day infection rate rose to 171 cases per 100,000 people, up from 164 the previous day.

It means that Scarborough continues to be above the average rate for England, which now stands 154.

The average rate for North Yorkshire has risen slightly to 104.

The total number of cases in Scarborough since the start of the pandemic is 3,105.

Today, a mobile testing facility will be at the Marina Car Park in Whitby for people with symptoms to get tested.

Scarborough’s walk-in coronavirus testing site at William Street Coach Park is also offering testing seven days a week from 8am until 8pm.

Appointments for all sites must be booked in advance.

Anyone who is showing coronavirus symptoms should register for a test on the NHS website at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

People who do not have access to the internet, or who have difficulty with the digital portals, can ring the 119 service to book.

Tests can be booked at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
