Patrols will be stepped up in the borough of Scarborough this weekend to ensure rules aren’t being broken in Tier 2.

North Yorkshire Police say they’re also monitoring people coming in from Tier 3 areas.

Superintendent Mike Walker said:

"They will expect to see and will see a higher police presence. Those who are travelling into our train stations will see increased presence from British Transport Police. It's our job to engage with the public and speak to them especially if we see groups coming in, we certainly will be engaging with those individuals.

"Our licensing team will be working with local businesses and this is incredibly important to ensure that they're operating in a Covid-safe way. We need to make sure that businesses are adhering to the rules and restrictions placed upon them as well, but we will be working with the local authority to help them through this.

"The main thing is to encourage those in Tier 3 areas to abide by the guidance and stay within their Tier area. They have to limit their journeys and not stay overnight outside of their Tier 3 area. That is the guidance that the Government has given."
