People are being urged to visit Hunmanby today as part of a Heritage Day.

The village is taking part in what is being called 'England's largest festival of history and culture'.

The free event aims to bring together local people, visitors and organisations.

There will be a guided heritage walk led by George Sheeran as well as stalls in Bayley Gardens, a Hunmanby in Bloom plant stall, a pop up museum, a chance to see the historic All Saints Church, mentioned in the Doomsday Book, and the award-winning Hunmanby Railway Station and White Swan Inn display.

Organiser Steve Rose, who is also Chairman of Hunmanby's Gateway Committee, said:

"A lot of towns and villages have lost a lot of their heritage, it's kept in museums separate from the towns and villages that they're from. Hunmanby hasn't got that. We've still got a medival market cross that's still in place, it's just missing the cross bit at the top.

"We have so much history here in Hunmanby and we want local people and visitors alike to share it with us and find out about Hunmanby. It's a destination, not just a place to pass through.

"Hunmanby's already on the map, it's just not very vibrant enough at the moment so it needs to be shown off a little bit more, so that's what Heritage Day will be doing. People are now coming here for their holidays and they're coming to enjoy what Hunmanby has to offer. We are the gateway to the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds."
