Humberside Police to engage with farmers to warn them of thieves
The rural taskforce team says it's expecting to see a rise in livestock theft
Officers at Humberside Police are engaging with farmers to warn them of thieves.
The rural taskforce team says it is expecting to see a rise in livestock being stolen.
Jenna Jones is from the team and said:
"So this is the time of year now where harvest is over, there's no crops in the fields and it's a very good breeding time of the year for our brown hare population, and our land mass brings in hare courses. If you don't report it, we don't know about it. If it's a suspicious vehicle then I would advise them to report it to 101.
"It's about speaking to your communities and seeing what their issues are; so in the East Riding the issues are different to those of North and East Lincolnshire. North and East Lincolnshire have historically had issues to do with livestock theft whereas we don't see that the same in the East Riding.
"It's a knock-on effect for that farm and their livelihood because if they don't have their tractor then they can't use that machinery in their farming business and then the monetary aspect and their livelihood is at stake because of that."
