Humberside Police has outlined what today's easing of restrictions means for the force and for the residents in its area.

Assistant Chief Constable Darren Downs said:

“Today (Monday 12 April) sees further easing of Government restrictions and our residents are now able to take advantage to visit the hairdressers, gyms, shops and outdoor café and pub venues, among many other activities.

“We would ask though that people remain vigilant to do everything they can to continue to prevent the spread of the virus. Whilst restrictions have eased, adhering to guidelines to prevent the virus spreading must remain a top priority.”

“Please keep yourselves and your family safe by continuing to observe social distancing. You should stay 2 metres apart from anyone who is not in your household or support bubble where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings) if you cannot stay 2 metres apart.

“It is reported that around 1 in 3 people with Covid 19 do not have any symptoms so to make sure you keep yourself and others safe please consider taking free rapid lateral flow tests. These will help to find cases in people who may have no symptoms but are still infectious and can give the virus to others.

“These rapid lateral flow tests are available at many pharmacies and Covid 19 test sites. You can find your nearest pharmacy or local site or order online though the Government website: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

“Our officers will continue to provide increased foot patrols and resources who will be out and about to help keep everyone safe. We will continue to patrol in ‘hot spot’ areas across Hull, East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire were officers will implement the 4Es with Engage, Explain and Encourage being our focus.

“This approach has worked successfully throughout the course of the pandemic and there are no plans to move away from this approach. Enforcement will be a last resort, but we will enforce the Government guidance and issue fixed penalty notices, if and when necessary.

“If you have any concerns over the current guidance, please talk to our officers while they are out on patrol, they are there to help you and keep everyone safe.

“We must continue to adhere to the Government restrictions throughout this time to ensure the health and safety of our residents and to protect our National Health Service as they continue to work tirelessly through the pandemic.”
