Humberside Police say they are expecting a rise in the number of young people being exploited.

They are working with partners and hotels to tackle the problem over the festive period.

Detective Chief Inspector, Rich Osgerby, said:

"We're still expecting children finishing school and wanting to meet up with friends and this is when they can find themselves in situations where they could be exploited in public spaces or private addresses. So there's traditionally an increase in this type of offending across the Christmas period.

"In terms of safeguarding, we're working with partners from children social care, charities and third sector partners, so we develop a shared understanding of the risks around the locations they're going to that put them at risk and the suspects.

"At the bottom end of the market, hotels are being used to exploit children, where adults take them into hotel rooms etc. So our drive is to educate people who work in that environment, so we're going to go to the hotels that we've identified from day-to-day action and provide them with support.

Humberside Police say they are working on a four week crackdown operation.

DCI Osgerby added:

"We're going into outreach environments where we know through research that children gather and there's a potential for them to be exploited in those locations."
