People on the Yorkshire Coast are being urged to be safe if they are having a barbecue today.

Humberside Fire and Rescue are issuing advice as many will be enjoying the hot weather outside.

Richard Gibson, Station Manager, said:

"We want to see everyone enjoy the summer, enjoy the sports, enjoy the hopeful relaxation of the Covid restrictions but we want people to enjoy that in a safe manner.

"Poor barbecue safety can lead to accidents, it can lead to fire spread, burns and it can also lead to injuries. Whilst as a fire service, we're obviously hopeful that we don't see an increase in these types of incidents, we are always available. We're always ready should those incidents occur.

"Ensure that you light your barbecue well away from fences, sheds, trees, shrubs and garden waste, only use enough charcoal to cover the base of the barbecue and be sure to keep children, pets and garden games away from the barbecue area and do not empty the ashes in to dust bins or wheelie bins because again this can lead to fires."
