An East Riding woman says her mental health has been affected as she is unable to find employment.

26-year-old Rachel Fisher has been facing barriers in accessing jobs.

She has been able to gain skills and confidence in applying for roles though, thanks to the support from Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.

Rachel, who is from Beverley, said: "The last job that I was in I left in not a great mental health state myself. This was about a year ago and ever since then I've been with multiple different services of which, some have helped me a little bit and the last one not so much at all.

"Applying for jobs, even college applications, are not easy. They're the most tedious kind of forms that have to be filled in and they have to be in a certain way for them to even get noticed, which isn't the easiest part. I've filled in applications on my own, I've been rejected and they haven't given feedback.

"I suffer with depression and I have done for a few years. It can seem as though I'm on a high but then I can immediately drop when something kind of doesn't work out. When the services weren't helping me as much as I thought they would, and they didn't, that was kind of downheartening."

The Humber Wellbeing Recovery Employment Service helps people access employment, education or to gaining functional skills in Maths and English.

The service team is made up of Employment Specialists, Health and Wellbeing Coaches and Recovery College Practitioners, who are on hand to provide support, tailored to individual need, for those wishing to:

• Make positive lifestyle changes to improve wellbeing and increase chances of gaining and sustaining employment and education

• Prepare for employment by gaining functional skills in Maths and English

The service works in close partnership with the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s Prevention, Recovery and Wellbeing teams, providing wrap around, hybrid support to those who need it most, including those most isolated and at risk of social exclusion.

Since its recent launch, the service has taken over 100 referrals and the Trust says its team members are already seeing the very real social impact of the work they are doing.

The Humber Wellbeing Recovery Employment service forms part of the Employability Wellbeing Service project, which is part-funded by the European Social Fund. The project is delivered by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust professionals, in partnership with Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Tigers Sport and Education Trust and Hull and East Yorkshire Mind.
