A further 539 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus across Hull and East Yorkshire today (Monday, December 20).

The Government’s latest rolling figures, updated today (Monday, December 20) show the number of infections recorded across the region was 1,381 for Hull and 1,755 in the East Riding in the seven days up to Wednesday, December 15, the latest with weekly data available.

At least five cases linked to the Omicron variant have been confirmed in the East Riding, with an unknown number of suspected ones from Hull currently being tested, according to both councils’ public health teams.

The figures come as Prime Minister Boris Johnson reportedly said in a television interview that the arguments for and against further coronavirus restrictions were finely-balanced after ministers met to discuss them today.

His comments come amid mounting speculation there could be some form of lockdown in January but officials are yet to make a final decision.
