The latest Wellcome Sanger Institute data shows Omicron accounts for up to 92.5 per cent of new cases in Hull and 97.8 per cent in the East Riding.

The figures come as 129,587 coronavirus cases have been recorded nationally in the last 24 hours, with 398 deaths, the second day in a row of 11-month highs.

They also come as Prime Minister Boris Johnson admitted in Parliament today that he attended a Downing Street lockdown party in May 2020, with several MPs calling for his resignation.
