A further 875 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus across Hull and East Yorkshire today (Friday, January 28).

The Government’s latest rolling figures, updated today, show the number of infections recorded across the region was 2,793 for Hull and 3,090 in the East Riding in the seven days up to Sunday, January 23, the latest with weekly data available.

A total of 89,176 new coronavirus cases were recorded nationally today, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 16,333,980, with 277 new deaths recorded, making a total of 155,317.

The figures come as Office for National Statistics (ONS) data found there were 350,000 new coronavirus cases a day in the UK in early January, more than double official statistics reported at the time.

They also come as more than 300 scientists and health experts warned in an open letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson that it was reckless to ease restrictions in the UK while more than 3bn worldwide remain unvaccinated.
