A housing needs survey is underway in the Snainton and Brompton by Sawdon parishes of Scarborough borough.

Scarborough Borough Council is delivering questionnaires to all households in these areas to see if there is a need for affordable homes, either to rent or to buy, for local people with a strong connection to the parishes.

There is already concern about the lack of affordable housing in rural areas for local people on average incomes, resulting in many people having to leave their village to seek accommodation elsewhere.

If a need for more affordable housing is established, it will help the council to determine the number and type of properties needed.

Only people in housing need are asked to reply to the questionnaire although if any site for affordable housing is identified as a result of the survey, a public consultation open day would be held in Snainton parish for all residents to comment on any proposed scheme.

The survey is also available to complete online at www.scarborough.gov.uk/consultation

Alternatively, a copy can be requested from the council’s Rural Housing Enabler, Colin Huby, by emailing colin.huby@scarborough.gov.uk or calling 01723 232538.
