Visiting has been suspended at both Scarborough and Bridlington hospitals with immediate effect.

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs both sites, says they've taken the difficult decision to limit the spread of Covid-19, and protect vulnerable patients and ensure staff safety.

Trust bosses have assured people they will relax the new visiting restrictions as soon as it is possible to do so safely.

There are some exemptions to the new rule, including end of life care circumstances at the ward manager’s discretion, and paediatric and maternity services.

They say they will always seek to apply the visiting guidance compassionately as required e.g. for patients with dementia and mental health issues - and that this decision is taken at ward level, unless on a Covid positive ward where visiting cannot take place.

They're also reminding family, friends and carers that they can stay in touch with patients by using their virtual visiting service.
