Hopes new multiplex cinema in Scarborough will boost night time economy
Scarborough Hospitality Association says it will be superb for the town
The new multiplex cinema in Scarborough is being welcomed as a chance to boost the night time economy.
The town's Hospitality Association says it will be superb and bring footfall in the Brunswick Shopping Centre and around the area outside.
Lynn Jackson, Vice-President, said: "It'll be absolutely superb. We've been talking for years about the night time economy and what will help. One of things they keep blocking in Scarborough is nightclubs. We're not allowed a nightclub, police and planning won't allow it, but one of the more gentle aspects of a night time economy is a cinema and complex.
"Scarborough is unusual because ours will be in the town centre. Most cinema complexes are outside town centres so it should boost the buses, trains, restaurants and cafes. They'll have to stay open because there's actually an audience in the centre that's there for your services.
"The cafes and bars, that'll help them, even if they do like they do in other centres where there are restaurants and things inside, there's still going to be enough business for outside of the cinema complex, so actually it's going to do everybody a lot of good. If you think about that kind of tea time if there are kids films on and going for meals and things.
"There's certain kinds of nightlife but what we need is family nightlife and a cinema with places to eat does that as long as they're not ridiciously expensive then you can't go wrong really with that."
