Humberside Police creates project to divert young people away from crime
The Hive Inspire Project looks to get young people into the business world instead
A new scheme aimed at diverting young people away from crime and into the business world could be coming to the East Riding.
The Hive Inspire Project has been created by Humberside Police and The Business Hive.
It has started a pilot in North East Lincolnshire and if successful, it will be rolled out across the rest of the force area.
This initiative will provide businesses and young people a unique opportunity to connect, based on interests, aspirations and skills. It also hopes to benefit the wider community through the reduction of anti-social behaviour and crime, plus boost the local economy.
Phil Booker, Detective Chief Inpsector at Humberside Police, said:
"One of the tactics that the organised crime groups do is target young people and offer them gifts, money and things like that, so if they haven't got any hopes or aspirations or they're not doing particularly well at school, then they'll think what choice have they got? What options have they got? So criminality is a way forward for them. If we can get people into employment that's to divert them away from criminality.
"We've got some really good tactics in place. We've got some great partnership working so some of the things we're doing with our local police teams, with our organised crime group teams and our proactive teams are going out there, disrupting and targeting them. This is just another tactic by getting young people into employment that will help us disrupt the organised crime groups within the community."
