Help and support still available for Scarborough Hospital cancer patients
Cancer patients in Scarborough are being made aware that they can still get help and advice.
Cancer patients in Scarborough are being made aware that they can still get help and advice.
Staff at Scarborough Hospital say they're there to provide support via telephone as they can't do it face-to-face yet.
Members of the cancer information and support team are urging anyone living with or affected by cancer to contact them.
Gemma Kellerman, who's from there, said:
"We just want to say a big hello from the cancer information and support team.
"We just want to let people know that we're still here to help and support them; anybody living with, or affect by cancer, be it the individual themselves, friends or family.
"Although we can't do it face-to-face just yet, we're still available on the telephone.
"We can offer information, we can send information out, we can answer questions, or even if it's just something like a listening ear.
"We're here to help and we want people to know that they're not alone.
"I think with the way that things stand at the moment, people are a bit reluctant and maybe a bit wary to ring in to the hospital to maybe seek information; they think that we're too busy maybe at the moment or they don't want to feel like they're bothering people and we really want to put a stop to that myth.
"It's for absolutely anybody affected by cancer. It doesn't have to be the individual themselves, you may have a family member going through it, or a friend or a neighbour and that you're after some information or support yourself on how best to help that person."
Anyone who needs information or support can contact Gemma or Teresa on 01723 342606 weekdays (Monday to Friday) between 9am and 4.30pm.
