Consultation launched on making Bridlington a healthier place
Public service organisations across the East Riding are working together to create opportunities for change to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in and around Bridlington.
Public service organisations across East Riding of Yorkshire, the East Riding Place Partnership, are working together to create opportunities for change to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in and around Bridlington. As part of the work, they are encouraging local people to get involved, join in the conversation and have their say on the plans.
John Skidmore, Director of adults, Health and Customer Services, East Riding of Yorkshire Council said:
“Our ambition is for everyone to have the same opportunities to lead a healthy life, no matter where they live or who they are.
“We understand that creating a healthy wellbeing society depends on many elements including; quality health and social care, jobs for local people, decent housing, a thriving community that prevents people becoming isolated and great educational opportunities.
“We recognise that places and communities have a critical role to play in how we shape and improve Bridlington. We want to create a neighbourhood where we can support and encourage people to take control of the choices they make in living their lives. To help people to look after themselves, adopt a healthier lifestyle; improve their wellbeing, and later in life, to stay well for longer, and when unwell have the opportunity to stay in their home for longer and to stay in work for longer.
“This is why we want everyone to come together to help get this right to make sure Bridlington and surrounding villages become more productive and prosperous.”
Plans have been drawn up that focus on six specific areas:
• Education, schools and workforce
• Transport
• Digital opportunities
• Diagnostics
• Communities
• Estates and assets
Positive conversations on the outline proposals have taken place with the Bridlington Ward Council members, the local MP and Bridlington health forum.
Tracey Craggs, Director Integrated Commissioning & Transformation from East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group said:
“From a health perspective our focus is to address health inequalities and deprivation in Bridlington to help improve people’s overall wellbeing. From an economic view we want to encourage people to live and work in the area to ensure Bridlington continues to thrive and prosper.
“This is a great opportunity for all partners to come together, join-up our resources and make them work more efficiently for local residents. Where it is safe to do so, our proposals will help to provide a greater range of services that are closer to people’s homes, in the community.
“We want to bring people along with us on this journey and give everyone the chance to join in the conversation, have their say on our plans and tell us what they want in their local area.”
Simon Morritt, Chief Executive, York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said:
“As one of the providers of health and care services for people in Bridlington, we are looking forward to working with our partners and the local community to shape a healthy future for residents. I encourage people to find out more about the plans and to get involved in the conversation so that we can better understand what local people want.”
