A 'Green Christmas Fair' is coming to Scarborough next month.

People are being asked to celebrate the festive period by thinking about buying local, ethically-sourced, recyclable and recycled items.

Coast and Vale Community Action has organised a fair with stalls selling products that is good for the environment.

It takes place on Friday 17th December from 12pm until 4pm at The Street on Lower Clark Street in Scarborough.

David Stone, who is from CaVCA, said:

"Christmas has become a time where we all overdo things. We spend too much, eat too much, we drink too much and parents get incredibly stressed out about making sure that they've got enough for their kids, and we thought 'maybe we'll do something a bit different, so we'll have a green Christmas fair'.

"The emphasis is on buying maybe less and buying locally sourced produce and handmade products and things that are basically good for the planet, good for nature and good for us.

"I think it'll bring the community together, it'll make people aware of the things that we have available right here on our doorstep and neighbourhoods and Christmas as much, as anything else, is about people getting together and enjoying each other's company so the event itself will do a bit of that."
