After a week of being open again, we have been speaking to a Yorkshire Coast business about coming out of lockdown.

Paul Stephenson owns Beevers, which is a home furnishing store, with four outlets.

He has been trading again as non-essential retail re-opened on Monday.

Paul said:

"It's been very good. We've had a very busy start in all of our stores. Our stores are located on the east coast in Whitby, Bridlington, Scarborough and Normanby and we've had a very busy time. It's been really pleasing.

"We've tried to use the lockdown time to refurbish some of our stores. In our Scarborough store we've redecorated, created a couple of new departments and also since the shops have been closed, we've managed to keep an online and social media presence.

"The schemes that the Government brought in to help businesses they haven't solved all the problems, but they've certainly helped and the furlough scheme with staff that's helped businesses. This last lockdown, although difficult, it's been easier to deal with because we know what the procedures are.

"I think there will be still some customers that are still reticent about visiting the stores. Our stores are quite large so you're not in a situation where you're ever going to be close to anybody so it's easy to manage the social distancing.
