Food businesses in Whitby are being asked to support the town's community fridge.

More donations are wanted of any waste produce that is still good to eat in order to help those in need as there has been a huge demand recently.

The Fridge is being run by Flash Company Arts, who are based at the Flowergate Hall Community Centre in Whitby, where their pay-as-you-feel People's Kitchen is located.

Rebecca Denniff is from there and said: "There's been massive demand for the community fridge, huge demand both from families who are really suffering hardship and also families who just believe it's better to save the world and they don't want to see food thrown away. We've had overwhelmingly positive support.

"We're delighted it's going strength to strength but we definitely need more local businesses to get on board and make sure that any waste food that they have, that can still be used, comes to us. So we're very open to talking to new businesses who want to make a partnership agreement with us.

"If you've got a small retail outlet and you have food that you have to get rid of but it's still good to eat, like fruit and vegetables or bakery products, we have fridges and freezers so basically anything that's still good to go.

"Where people won't come and sit in the cafe and eat, we'll put food up in the community fridge so they can take it away with them. We're going to start developing that so that maybe there'll be food that you can sit down and eat at a cafe, but there'll also be a takeaway aspect to that in the community fridge."

Anyone who wants to donate food can contact Flash Company Arts via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram or you can email flashcompanyarts@gmail.com
