Flood warning for River Esk near Whitby

It's been issued by the Environment Agency, as Storm Christoph brings excess rain.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for near Whitby.

It's as Storm Christoph hits the UK.

It concerns the River Esk, from Briggswath to Ruswarp.

The Agency says flooding is expected.

It says:

"The flood warning for the River Esk from Briggswath to Ruswarp remains in force. #

The level of the River Esk at Briggswath has peaked, however further rain is forecast until Thursday, 21/01/2021, so river levels are expected to rise again.

Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the forecast.

See the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast and river levels. Please put your flood plan into action and avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses, and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."
