Further Five Coronavirus Cases Confirmed In Scarborough

A further five coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Scarborough.

Figures released this afternoon show that three cases were recorded on bank holiday Monday with the two remaining cases coming back positive on Thursday last week.

These new cases bring the borough’s total since the start of the pandemic to 578.

The data includes tests carried out in hospitals and also Pillar 2 tests, which is anyone tested at one of the mobile sites in the borough or sent a test to take at home.

The new cases have seen Scarborough’s seven-day infection rate increase from 0.3 to 0.7.

The news comes after two businesses in the borough closed this week due to coronavirus.

The Halifax branch in Scarborough town centre was shut yesterday with a note on the door saying an “employee or customer” had been affected by the virus.

Meanwhile, the Hare and Hounds pub in Hawkser, near Whitby, has also been forced to close its doors after a staff member tested positive for Covid-19.

A post on the pub’s Facebook page stated:

“If you have visited our premises between 28/08/20 and 29/08/20 you are advised, as a precaution, to self-isolate for 14 days and if you develop any symptoms, however mild, to arrange a test.

“The symptoms to look out for are a high temperature, new continuous cough, and a loss of, or change to your sense of smell or taste.

“As you can imagine we are feeling all emotions and seeking lots of advice, we just ask for everyone to please be kind, it’s been an emotional day particularly for our hard-working, loyal staff members, we only wish it wasn’t happening to us.”
