Filey welcomes the Yorkshire Coast Super Soapbox Challenge
The free community event is being supported by local councils and the BID
Filey plays host to the first ever 'Yorkshire Coast Super Soapbox Challenge' today.
It takes place from 10am till 4.30pm, when you will see hand-made carts, fuelled only by gravity, whizzing down Ravine Road, past the lifeboat station and racing towards the seafront.
Teams and individuals are entering various contraptions they have designed and there are prizes for race winners as well as costumes and the carts themselves.
The free community event is being supported by Scarborough Borough Council, Filey Town Council and Yorkshire Coast BID with the official charity for the event being the town's RNLI station.
Cart number 1 will be released at 10am, using two official race start ‘lollipops’, by the Mayor and Mayoress of the Borough of Scarborough, Councillor Eric Broadbent and Mrs Lynne Broadbent and the Mayor of Filey, Councillor Jacqui Houlden-Banks.
Parking will be available near the start of the course at Country Park car park.
