A masterplan to regenerate Filey is continuing after a consultation saw loads of responses.

Scarborough Borough Council and Filey Town Council asked people to contribute ideas on what any future investments should be spent on.

Four key capital projects to improve the Filey's public realm are set to be delivered over the next 12 months like refurbishing Glen Gardens.

David Liddle is the Filey Town Clerk and said:

"The response from the Filey residents has been absolutely superb. At the moment we're now just sitting waiting to see results. I think the key element is when we start seeing things improving then I think we'll really start to see some good things happening.

Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff is a Scarborough Borough Council Cabinet Member and said:

"It's good news and refreshing that a public consultation has actually resulted in such a high level of engagement. I think that's hugely important because I think the whole point of any investment plan is yes councils have to operate and run it, but really it needs to belong to the people.

"It's not about us deciding in a sense what people can have, it's a case of us looking at what they're saying and then trying to meet those requirements. I think with a process like this, it's more of a marathon than a sprint. Everything does take time and there's no, unfortunately, a shortcut in carrying out these consultations.

"Where we have shovel ready, I think the sooner we can get some wins on that for everybody. I think that would be a really, really good positive. I think the fact that people are working together, the fact that it's not always as simple and straight forward and it is a process that has to be managed for everybody but, I do manage it and I look forward to seeing the outcomes."
