Filey pub turns into homes
The Grapes, on Queen Street, will be turned into three houses.
A pub in Filey, which was closed earlier this year, is to be turned into three new homes.
The Grapes, on Queen Street, was sold by Admiral Taverns in May, after it decided the business was no longer sustainable.
Now, permission has been granted to Eco Custom Homes to build three houses on the site by Scarborough Council planning officers.
In a report prepared for the application, the officers state:
“In regard to the current building, it is understood that the pub owner no longer believed the Grapes had a sustainable long term future and therefore took the decision to sell the pub.
“The pub has been shut for some time. Its small size and the abundance of alternative food and drink establishments in the local area mean that it is unviable to continue as a pub.
“The Grapes pub was marketed for a period of approx. nine months with no interest from pub operators.”
Seven objections to the proposals were lodged by members of the public, who were concerned about the impact on parking in the area and also the disruption during the building process.
