Filey's Flood Alleviation scheme finally finished

Filey's £4 million Flood Alleviation scheme is finally finished.
It comes after severe flooding in the town back in 2002 and 2007.
A ditch has been built around it which will collect excess rainwater.
Mike Cockerill, who is Town and Scarborough Borough Councillor for Filey and also a resident, said:
"It had a tremendous impact on a lot of people in Filey. There were over 400 properties flooded and I mean some of those were out of their homes for over a year. I do know that one particular person on both occasions was out of their home for over 12 months.
"There are one or two little things to tidy up which the contractor will be doing but now it's no longer a construction site, so anybody who wants to walk along the footpaths are free to do so even though people have been doing that for many, many months.
"It is a huge relief not only to me but to a lot of people. I think a lot of people in Filey who've maybe not lived here that long don't realise what happened all those years ago.
"The footpaths that have been created make a very nice walk and I would encourage people to go and walk around them. They can see the wide open spaces and they can see the actual flood alleviation, particularly on the northern side."
