Eastfield is to benefit from a £500,000 resurfacing scheme which will deliver smoother roads for residents, businesses, visitors and people accessing two nearby primary schools.

Overdale is a busy residential road through Eastfield and has deteriorated in recent years due to the amount of traffic using the route. As a result, North Yorkshire County Council’s highways team will carry out extensive resurfacing to the road later this month.

The works will begin on Monday 13th February, and will be carried out under a road closure between 7.30am and 5pm for 19 days. The second phase of works will begin on Monday 6th March, where the road will be closed at the Eastfield roundabout from 7pm to midnight for four nights.

North Yorkshire County Council’s executive member for highways and transportation, Cllr Keane Duncan, said: “This road has deteriorated over time and is now in a poor condition, so I am pleased we are able to deliver this much-needed improvement as part of our annual highways maintenance budget.

“We appreciate the works will cause some inconvenience. However, this will be as limited as possible and the long-term benefits to residents and visitors will outweigh this short-term disruption.”

The stretch of road is used by pupils, parents and staff travelling to Overdale Community Primary School and St George's Roman Catholic Primary School. The first phase of works will be carried out during half-term, and the second phase in early March in the evenings.

Cllr Tony Randerson, who represents the Eastfield division on the county council, said: “Overdale has reached the end of its life, so I welcome the full resurfacing scheme. In order to carry out the work all vehicles in the on-road parking bays must be removed. We apologise for the disruption the closure will cause but we would ask all road users for their patience.”
