That's only if a new pilot scheme is successful in Hull by charity Emmaus

There could be a weekly breakfast service for homeless people in the East Riding coming in the future.

But that is only if a new pilot scheme, run by charity Emmaus Hull and East Riding is successful.

'Rise and Shine' starts today (Monday 6th September) in Jubilee Church on King Edward Street in Hull.

The service will run every Monday morning from 7am until 8.30am in the car park. Rough sleepers are encouraged to attend for free hot drinks, pastries and a friendly chat.

This community project is being run by the Outreach team at Emmaus Hull & East Riding, which aims to provide support and essential items to rough sleepers in the city and county. The Outreach service runs 365 days a year and is funded by Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Casey Fawcett, Outreach worker at Emmaus Hull and East Riding said:

“I am so excited for the Rise and Shine drop in to begin. There is something special about food which brings people together and engages people in conversation.

“This will be so beneficial to us as an outreach service, being able to see so many people in one place at the start of the week, giving them advice, referring to the correct places and hopefully bringing a good start for the week that lies ahead for the people who are rough sleeping.”

Emmaus Hull & East Riding Outreach team is appealing for volunteers to help run this weekly service and for local bakeries or supermarkets to donate unsold fresh items. If you would like to volunteer or donate to the Rise and Shine project, please email casey@emmaushull.org.uk.
